THE GREATNESS OF THE TEMPLE
| ☀ Lord Shiva and Mother Kali entered into a dancing contest. |
| ☀ Lord Shiva played His frurious Ugra Thandava and raised His legs upward at a stage and asked Kali if She could play this. |
| ☀Bound in feminine traits, Kali could not do this. |
| ☀ Though defeated, She became furious. |
| ☀ Lord Brahmma appeared there and praised Kali as Veda Nayaki and begged Her to calm downwith four faces representing the four Vedas. |
| ☀ Kali responded to Brahmma’s prayer and granted darshan to Him as Brahmma Chamundeeswari. |
| ☀ An idol is made in this form separately and installed in the temple. |
| ☀ On every time while doing kumbabhiseka to the Thillai natrajar temple , Dekshidars will do first abhisekam for the thillai kali and then they start the proceedings for kumbabhishekam. |

THE HISTORY OF THE TEMPLE
A debate arose between Lord Shiva and Mother Parvathi as to who was more powerful among them. Shiva claimed he was.But Shakti was too voracious in her defence on the debate to establish Her claim. Angry Shiva cursed Her to become an Ugrakali. Realizing Her haste and violent argument, Shakti begged Shiva for a remedy. Lord Said, “Devas and men will be subjected to the atrocities of demons shortly. You, as Ugra Kali will destroy the demons and protect Devas and men. Then,You come to Thillai (now Chidambaram) and perform penanceon me. I shall be there to grant Ananda dance darshan to Sages Patanjali and Vyakrapada. You will join me there as Sivakami” thus goes the story. Those visiting Chidambaram temple complete the pilgrimage to the place with worship of Thillaikali.

| ☀ The temple of thillai kali is spread over an area of 7200 squre feet, The King towers in West of the temple enhance the beauty of the temple. |
| ☀ There is separate shrine for vinayaga, Murugan,Bairavar and sandikeshvara having inner and outter wall built with towers, Eventhough the temple is small its power is more than the depth of the deep sea. |
| ☀ Opposite to the temple Sivapiriyai theertham , This is one of the ten holy theertham of Lord Natraj. |
| ☀ If you cross the King tower and go inside, side you can see the prasanna vinayagar temple, North sides Karthikeya peruman temple are there facing east direction, the mandapa from tower to inside temple pillers are decorated with astalakshmi sculptures. |
| ☀ If you walk further towards east direction you can find the Sri Brahma samundeshwai amman with four face, In the North west corner The Ellai kali amman shrine is there facing east direction , the lord has eight hands after seeing the lord you can go around the temple path way there you can find Sri Durga shrine,Sri sandikeshvara shrine and Sri bhairava shrine.. |

| Abhishekam for Bramma samundeshwai is carried out with all liquids , where as for thillai kali only Gingelly oil abhisekam is carried out.Devotees perform abishek with oil, offer white vastras and archanas with Kumkum. |

FESTIVALS
| Brahmotsavam | Every year in the tamil month of Vaikasi thithi and one day before the no moon day brahmotsavam will start and celebrated for ten days in the temple. If the car festival for thillai amman happens in vaikasi then only in Aani thillai Natrajar car festival will happen. |
| Purattasi Navarathri | Every year Purattasi Navarathri in September-October is grandly and devotionally celebrated in the temple. |
| Adi perukku | Every year in the tamil month of Adi, Adi peruku day the lord kali will visit the kollidam river and take bath, this festival is grandly celebrated. |
| >Masimagam | Every year in the tamil month of masi, the amman eill take samuthra theerthavari on masi magam day , for this festival amman will be carried to Killai and fisher man will celebrate the festival grandly. |
